So, if you haven’t heard, there are big changes afoot for next season’s So You Think You Can Dance (which begins May 27th). Apparently, there are only going to be 10 dancers who advance from the final Vegas round instead of the regular 20, and those 10 will be partnered with a SYTYCD finalist “celeb” from the past instead of with each other. Only one person, instead of two, will be going home each week.
Hmmm, what do we think of this new set-up? Go here for one pov.
Tonya, Does that mean they will bring back Danny Tidwell??? One can only hope!
WHY do they need to mess with such a successful formula? And it's not like the all stars they bring back are going to be pros in all forms of dance. This must be something the past season's contestants lobbied for.
According to Rickey.org, so far they have Twitch, Pasha and Kathryn (from last season) signed up. It would be nice to see Danny again, but I'm not sure I love this set-up either. It means there are only going to be 10 new people, which means it's going to cut back on the number of dancers in each style. I was looking forward to seeing both Billy Bell and Alex Wong this season and now I'm not sure there's going to be enough room for two male contemporary dancers, you know?…
I can see the merit in changing the format. we will now be able to focus on the abilities of every dancer. Gone will be the sacrificial dismissal of a male and female each week just because someone has to go. I think we just have to wait and see.
