TIX TO THARP'S COME FLY WITH ME NOW ON SALE

Tickets to the New York production of Twyla Tharp’s new dance musical, Come Fly With Me, are now on sale. The story follows four couples as they fall in and out of love. It’s set to Sinatra (music will have recordings of his original voice backed by live accompaniment), so I have high hopes. Here’s a Times review from the show’s Atlanta opening in September. NY previews begin March 1.

  1. Hi Tonya – I was a bit disappointed when I heard about this. Is this not a re-hashing of her two previous successes – the Sinatra Suite and her Broadway success of “Movin' Out”? (Let's try to forget Tharp's “The Times They Are A-Changin'”). I feel like in this recession, art is being recycled to its tried and true formulas and conservative programming, and it feels like it'll be a new Sinatra Suite, on Broadway.

Yeah, that's true Jolene! It sounds like she's using some different songs here (at least different from Sinatra Suite — I never saw her Nine Sinatra Dances that showed in San Francisco), but yeah, still to Sinatra, and she's using many of the same cast members as Movin' Out. I love her work to Sinatra anyway though! Yeah, and I also think she probably doesn't want to be remembered for the Bob Dylan…
