Okay, I’m a dumbass and missed it last night. I thought it was premiering tonight. Did any of you guys catch it? What did you think? I just learned that San Francisco Ballet’s Maria Kochetkova will be on tonight, dancing as the ballet soloist for Russia! According to her blog, she’ll be dancing a Kitri solo from Don Quixote. Will definitely be taping and / or watching!

while a good idea… the scoring system is very stupid and retarded (see my blog)… I think the show would do well if the had a better system of how they did scoring… Because honestly? Its impossible to compare a traditional Zulu dance from South Africa with a contemporary “poppin” routine from the US. It's just not possible and by doing this format it just doesn't work.

I agree, I think the scoring system is random and gratuitous. It's like they need to place importance on the judges by giving them power over the results through scoring. I think it would have been a much stronger show if it had been a showcase of the best dance from all over the world.
And if ANYONE scores that burlesque dancer/popper/monks/bollywood dancers higher than Maria Kochetkova, I will be PISSED and boycott this show! I'm just reminded at how I don't like TV dance shows again, as I see that there's no score below a 6, all the dancers are trying *so hard* to sex up their dances and mug for applause in this crowd pleasing environment. I think the prize should be that they get to be on TV. Isn't that prize enough? It's heartbreaking to see their faces fall after they get 7's and you know they tried so hard.
Yeah, I can't imagine the scoring would make any sense AT ALL on a show like this! Why do we have all these contest shows anyway? That seems to be THE thing right now. What about those old variety shows? Didn't people just used to perform, or did there used to be scoring system there too so someone took home the prize money at the end of the night or season or whatever? I don't really remember those shows but I think I am going to do some research…
Yep, totally agree on the random, gratuitous scoring (and well just about everything felt random and gratuitious). Impossible to compare apples to oranges. I left comments on Dance Outlook and A Time to Dance already, but overall what I saw was a total disappointment. :o(
