with this show now. I wouldn’t be at all upset if what had happened last night hadn’t had happened, if Carrie Ann hadn’t said those words. I really think she should apologize, to Cloris and to the public in general, because she really was reprimanding the public for voting the way they did. Assuming the results aren’t rigged… a belief many have expressed. Who knows, maybe they are — it’s very odd that Cloris stays on all this time, then, after the judges decide she should be off, wham she is… especially when you’d expect all her fans to come out and show their support to the max after those nasty statements by the judges.
In any event, this show has really worn on my nerves this season.
I’m sure I’ll get over it though, and will be glued to the TV next week 🙂
Anyway, for ballet people, here is a very short HuffPo piece I did on ABT, trying to gear it a bit to the more ‘political’ crowd.
She did Tonya… Last night as Clois was leaving, Carrie Ann said to Clois “You know I love you right?” and Clois said Yes.
I’m so glad she left… it’s about damn time.
But I’m sick of ABC…I mean Team Dances? WTF? I wish ABC would take Len’s own advice: If it ain’t broke, don’t mess with it!
But she should have apologized — in my mind saying “I love you” is not enough for such a mean-spirited remark. And she should have apologized to us, the viewers as well. I’m sorry, I’m not that upset that Cloris is actually off, I’m far more upset at Carrie Ann.
I think I’m just sick of the show this season. I agree — I don’t know what they’re doing with these team dances. When they said the dancers were going to be dancing together, I thought they meant for one of their dances, they would partner each other. I guess that would have been hard though, since there are far more men left at this point. Of course they could have had the men dance with each other, but that might be asking too much…
You know, I’m trying to reserve judgment. This could turn out to be a good thing for the show, we just don’t know yet.
Yah I understand. Frankly, I think she wasn’t directly it at Clois at all. I think Carrie Ann knows it’s not Clois’s fault but I really think, like Bruno (who said comments along the same lines), were really directing it at the audience. It probably wasn’t the best time to say it, I agree on that but I really do honestly think it needed to be said.
Yeah, I’m over it. I wasn’t rooting for her to win the whole thing anyway; I’m actually rooting for Cody at this point. This season has been so stressful — with Misty May and Julianne and all! I feel like I just want Cody (or someone) to win and then on to a new season already!
Julianne made a comment on her blog or somewhere that she’s love a Hough vs Hough final. My top three: Brooke, Cody, and Warren… Here’s some thoughts I’ve thought of:
New dances: great but don’t make them part of the competition. Show them off without judging them.
New judges: great but get ones that are in the ballroom world. In my mind, Carrie Ann should be the one talking about the performance aspect of the dances, not technique since she doesn’t have any ballroom experience either
Macy’s stars of dance: are great BUT Choose ones that haven’t been on the show already! I mean I love Michael Flately I do, but he’s already performed on the show, same with the Pussycat Dolls… How bout getting the San Fransisco Ballet to perform, or the American Ballet Theatre, or the Joffery ballet, or more Broadway shows to perform.
I would love to see DWTS stop with the fluff stuff… I mean what did that marine have to do with dance last night? I mean DWTS keeps going over time on Tuesdays. A little less talking sometimes would be great.
I would also like to see the celebs take at least one ballet class. The judges keep harping on this season’s celebs about their posture and make comments about the junior dancers that look good that do ballet. Taking at least one session in ballet will help their posture, pointing feet, ect. and it would help the dances.
As Len said: “if it ain’t broke, don’t mess with it”
The format was great, you could go back and look at say how Brook performed a rumba and compare it with Cody’s rumba. But adding dances that the other celebs won’t compete isn’t fair. Keep the same format…
This is a personal thing but I would also like to see the judges and announces to get termnology right. Ballroom doesn’t each the Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, and Quickstep. Len should know this. However, Ballroom is all 10 dances (Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Quickstep, Viennese Waltz, Rumba, Samba, Jive, and Mambo). Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Quickstep and Viennese Waltz fall under Standard and/or Smooth and the others fall into Latin.
And speaking of Viennese Waltz… The so called Viennese Waltz that they’re doing on the show is not a proper Viennese Waltz. A proper one is completely different… what they are doing on the show right is honestly just a regular waltz.
I agree with all those suggestions, Katrina. I haven’t taken a formal Viennese Waltz class (it’s not danced at Blackpool anymore and so most of the studios, at least around here, aren’t teaching it anymore) but I’ve had instructors teach the basic — which is just the two types of turns. If that’s all there is to it, maybe they think it just won’t be interesting on the show — having nothing but turn turn turn / turn turn turn. I still think it’s so pretty though (when they dance it in the US comps). Plus, it’s fast – -maybe it’s too fast and / or too vomit-inducing to the amateurs! Sorry to be gross — that’s just how I often feel after spinning around the room a little too much 🙂
LOL pretty much nothing grosses me out Tonya… I have an interest in Forensic Anthropology LOL.
I would have so many problems with it though because sometimes I have issues spotting…
